  1. Promote in each country or region in Asia the right to conduct and publish scientific research on what the people and its groups think and how this thinking is influenced by various factors.
  2. Promote the knowledge and application of scientific methods in this objective.
  3. Assist and promote the development and publication of public opinion research in Asia.
  4. Promote worldwide the publication of public opinion research on Asia.
  5. Promote international cooperation and exchange among academic and commercial researchers, journalists and political actors, as well as between the representatives of the different scientific disciplines.

Functions and activities of WAPOR Asia include, but are not limited to, organizing and sponsoring meetings and publications, encouraging high professional standards, promoting improved research techniques, informing journalists about the appropriate forms of publishing poll results, observing the democratic process and use of polls in elections, promoting personnel training, coordinating international polls, and maintaining close relations with other research agencies. Such agencies include, but are not limited to, the agencies mentioned in the constitution of WAPOR.

WAPOR STATEMENT OF JULY 27, 2020

REAFFIRMING OUR BASIC VALUES AND PRINCIPLES

In light of events that took place in 2020, the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) publicly reaffirms its commitment to the basic principles upon which it was founded. These include promotion in each country of the right to conduct scientific research regarding the beliefs and opinions of the public and the right to freely publish this information so as to make it available to all citizens. As such, we are deeply concerned when any government seeks to limit the rights of the public to be heard by imposing any restrictions on the free practice and reporting of public opinion research.

Any person wishing to support this statement are invited to formally add their names as signatories. You can do so by sending an email with your formal affiliation to admin@wapor.org with the subject “WAPOR Statement.” We encourage you to circulate this information within your networks.

Regards,

WAPOR Asia Pacific

The 21st century has long been described as the Asian century. It was therefore an auspicious moment and a special privilege to participate in the May 2018 inaugural conference of WAPOR Asia in Taiwan, where we all met new colleagues and made new friends. This remarkable inaugural conference was organized with exceptional speed so that WAPOR Asia President Robert Chung could report on developments at WAPOR’s annual meeting in Marrakesh later this summer. Morocco is part of WAPOR’s new West Asia and North Africa (WANA) chapter.
